Norma Tanega
Here is Norma Tanega's bio from oldies.com: She was born on January 30th, 1939 in Vallejo, California. Her Filipino parents actively encouraged their daughter's interest in music and art, both of which she studied. Although classically trained, Tanega quickly showed a preference for guitar. She moved to New York to work as a graphic artist, but quickly became immersed in the city's folk enclave. She drew encouragement from Bob Dylan and Tom Paxton and her prolific songwriting resulted in a recording deal. Tanega's debut single, "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog" (1966), reached number 22 both in the US and UK charts, and she was optimistically categorized alongside other lyrical artists, including Janis Ian and Bob Lind. Sadly, Tanega's hit proved to be her strongest composition; further releases were unsuccessful and the first phase of the singer's career ended almost as quickly as it had begun. She briefly re-emerged in 1977 with an album recorded for RCA Records
